Women in Cardiothoracic Surgery

 

At the NTCCTS we aim to support a fair, equitable, diverse and inclusive culture in cardiothoracic training in which women have equal opportunities. We want to spread awareness of gender disparity and provide assistance to women in cardiothoracic surgery.  With women representing less than 5% of the total consultant workforce, it is vital to understand why and to overcome the challenges faced by women in the specialty. To this end the SCTS has created the Women in Cardiothoracic Surgery Subcommittee lead by Consultants Karen Booth and Narain Moorjani.

This subcommittee aims to create toolkits that support women in the specialty and we strongly recommend engaging with this subcommittee to benefit from upcoming activities, including mentorship schemes, education, networking events and more.
